Non A SERVER!

100% not worth paying for or using/upgrading later on Apple removed all the server functionality of this "server" product. It only exists now to run across how many suckers they tin can become to pay for it (in case y'all didn't know, all the server functionality came included in the OS to begin with).

Version five.6 all the same has the ability to configure the postal service and spider web server, but only if they were previously configured (at to the lowest degree that's how I interpreted the release notes). And then if you happen across this application and want to torture yourself trying to get information technology to do something useful, you'll have to downgrade your OS to get a version sometime enough to include the "real server" applications.

This used to be a slap-up way to incorporate the OS backup capability (ane of the main reasons for using a mac) for your servers. It saved me a couple times over the past decade when hardware failed and I could run out and become a new machine and have it upward and running in no time with all the old accounts, port settings, etc, etc., but I recollect Apple tree got tired of expending energy keeping their UIs up to appointment every bit the underlying open source projects changed. Funny, because they keep pumping money into the old (horrid) Web Objects for their ain purposes, but totally ignore the needs of their customers. However, the problems I have experienced over the last 4 years is that the updates sometimes break functionality, accept away features, or make previous implementations unfeasible. This has led to catastrophies for our system. Examples in the past, that accept required Apple tree enterprise support accept been: disruption of e-mail for days, email logs no longer available (intentionally past Evolution), firewall troubleshooting because an update broke connectivity, anti-virus & junkmail filters failing to update, etc.

If you base your services offered by this product, beware, because it seems as if Apple may not do much vetting in concern environments - or they have a hard fourth dimension ensuring all the open up source components are compatible with their Bone. Considering the features change so much, documentation is often sketchy & outdated. These are big problems that can sometimes requires hours, or even days of troubleshooting & re-configuration, to get this app working subsequently a patch. Horrible. Worst Apple product ever.

Don't do information technology. Information technology breaks file sharing. It won't work properly and there is no fix because it will pause itself once more. ACLs don't piece of work. File locking doesn't work. Permissions don't inherit properly and are randomly and incorrectly followed. You either become locked out when y'all shouldn't become locked out, or if y'all're "lucky" plenty to go to your files, they go corrupted if at that place are other users on the network. Databases? Damaged the moment you have more than 1 user. Almost forgot to mention - home directories and network logins don't piece of work either. I never thought I'd say information technology, but at least Windows works. My office is a 100% Apple shop, and so is my home. If Apple doesn't ready this soon, we'll exist turning the corner on that, and that will translate to what we use at home, what we make our phone calls on, and all the rest of our products. I'one thousand tired of paying peak dollar for what is increasingly substandard products. This one renders my new and very expensive hardware useless.
